The non paranormal things we love about investigating the paranormal

We all of course love all things paranormal, but there are a lot of non paranormal reasons why we go out every weekend.

I was recently chatting to someone who had just started going on paranormal investigations. One of the points they raised to me highlighted one of the points that I love most about paranormal investigating and why a lot of people do as well. He said when he was there in the moment, he was just focused on the communication we were trying to do. He wasn’t thinking about work, his family, financial issues, personal struggles. For the first time in a long time, in that moment his mind had been completely empty and stress free.

I suppose this is something that happens in whatever you do to unwind. Some people like to put their headphones in and go for a run or goto the gym. I like to grab my kit and go on an investigation. I know that you can relate. It is truly why we call it a love job I guess.

I can go out every single weekend and I don’t even think about how much money I have spent in money and tolls to get there. (Trust me it adds up especially if you are travelling to remote locations that take over 3 hours to get there). My kids are at school so I am always there to drop them off and pick them up. I am studying at home and running our household. I do pick up the occasional contract work in IT but for a lot of the time I am at home. Going on an investigation is my escape. I don’t care how much it will cost me or how many hours I have to drive to get there. The passion for the field, the need to actually do something worthwhile and hey to even just hang out with my friends and meet some new people is enough of a reward for me.

I enjoy going to locations to take photos. I enjoy walking around to look at the history. I enjoy the hours of work that following editing the photos and putting together information for blog articles. I guess in this case it is headphones in and start writing! It has all very much become a part of who I am. I am not working full time and being a mum, I like having a usefulness aside from cooking forward and doing laundry. The blog allows me to channel my creative energy and talents. I accept the fun that gets poked at me, it comes with the territory. I don’t claim to be anyone that I am not. I am certainly no expert here in the field. I use the blog to simply share information as I come across it. It is up to you as your own person to decide what you want to take on board because as I always say, we are all different and believe different things. Our field would be so boring if we didn’t think differently or believe different things. It wouldn’t advance because there would be no new ideas. These conversations that you can have with your peers can be just what you need sometimes.

I like collaborating with others both here in Australia and overseas. I have made some wonderful friendships with people that I haven’t even met. We share ideas, theories and I have to say the the inspiration for some of the articles and topics has come from them. There is so much we can learn from each other. There are people in this field that have been in it for over 30 years and are happy to share their knowledge with you. It can spark a fire inside of you that didn’t even know that you have. Then there are the friendships you make. A bunch of misfits bought together for a common love of the one thing. Sometimes you find a chemistry and suddenly you have a bunch of new people in your life that you don't know how you lived without. Talking to them or knowing that you have a weekend of fun coming up at a location could be the one thing that gets you through that tough day or week. There have been so many times where I have just had a crap few days. I will get a random message from one of these people of something nice and it just makes my day.

The paranormal community and in particular doing this blog has changed me so much. I don’t make any money from doing the blog as I am not that kind of blogger. When I goto a location to take photos, I pay my entry fee like everyone else. I do it because I love doing it. The day it becomes too much I would stop. Look at how many great content creators there are out there with youtube channels, podcasts, blogs and facebook pages. Again the majority of them are not making any money. If they are, they would barely be covering their costs. It is because they love doing it. It can take over your life there is a lot that you have to do to keep those kind of things up. People don't truely understand how much work it can be running these sorts of things until they do it themselves. It becomes a second job so you really have to love it.

Ultimately, whether it Is the paranormal or a different field, you have to have something besides work, family and the pressures of life to focus on. When you do, in that moment you are free. My favourite quote is one from one of my favourite movie ‘Perks of Being a Wallflower’ and I think it sums it all up beautifully! “This is happening, I am here and I am looking at her. And she is so beautiful. I can see it. This one moment when you know you’re not a sad story. You are alive, and you stand up and see the lights on the buildings and everything that makes you wonder. And you’re listening to that song and that drive with the people you love most in this world. And in this moment, I swear we are infinite.”
